Corporate Food Safety Manager/Microbiologist

Northfield, MN

Malt-O-Meal, the nation’s fourth largest cereal manufacturer, supplies a full line of branded cereals to all retail channels. The company currently produces 26 different ready-to-eat cereals, three varieties of hot wheat cereal, and a full line of oatmeal products. The company operates production facilities in Minnesota, Utah and North Carolina. Four distribution centers supply the customer base throughout the United States.

 

JOB FUNCTION

 

 

Lead the organization in defining and implementing food microbiology and food safety systems aimed at comprehensive and practical management of risk.

 

JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES

 

  • Act as the organizational lead and subject matter expert in food microbiology and food safety.
  • Establish an integrated microbiology program that coherently addresses environmental and other input risks.
  • Adjudicate food microbiology and safety data that relate to environment, ingredients and finished products.

Requirements JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

  • BS (preferably MS or Ph.D) in Food Microbiology/Food Safety from a well recognized program.
  • 8 - 10 years working as a site Food Microbiologist or combined experience at site and corporate level in dry goods manufacture
  • Expertise and experience in microbiology of thermal processing is considered a plus
  • Site audit experience and facility sanitary design experience considered a plus.
  • Management/Leadership/Other Skills: Business Acumen, Timely Decision Making, Problem Solving, Organizing, Managing & Measuring work, Action Oriented, Self-Starter, Listening, Negotiating.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time.
