We are currently looking for a detail oriented and driven Product Development Food Scientist.  The Product Development Food Scientist will be responsible for developing and project management of infant formula and nutritional products from initial concept, literature and patent searches, to prototype development, pilot studies and commercial launch in a dynamic high paced environment. Projects may include nutritionals, infant formula and nutraceuticals. It involves experimental design, ingredient evaluations, troubleshooting, investigations and technical assistance to 3rd party manufacturers.


 Develops documentation and perform trials for the validation of new products and processes. Products include natural, organic, and conventional infant, toddler, and adult nutritionals; dairy, soy, and fruit based nutraceuticals, and dietary supplements; in liquid and powder forms produced by various manufacturing processes including dry mixing, retort processing; and conventional liquid batching, pasteurization and spray drying.  Products developed may contain various ingredients including protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals, stabilizers, antioxidants, flavor systems, fiber, prebiotics, probiotics and novel ingredients.

  • Develops manufacturing process and product specifications initially at pilot scale and then for commercial scale-up at co-packing facilities
  • The preferred individual will have extensive experience in infant formula and nutritional manufacturing, development and pilot plant operations and a proven track record of successful product introductions. 
  • Manage all phases of new product development including confirming new product prototype design with a diverse group of highly energetic corporate and plant personnel and establishing time lines for project completion. 
  • Prepare/provide appropriate documentation and or technical information for new product introductions used to support regulatory filings/registrations for USDA, FDA, EU, Organic Certification, etc., and to address customerís questions.


  • A minimum of 7 years or equivalent experience with manufacturing and/or development of commercially marketed nutritional products and a proven track record of successful new product introductions are required.
  • BS, MS or PhD in Food Science or related degree. Advanced degree preferred
  • A firm knowledge of various food manufacturing processes and concepts (retort processing, liquefaction, compounding, evaporation, spray drying, dry blending), and food manufacturing principles including microbiological control, food chemistry, food/ingredient interactions and functionality, is essential.
  • Ability to operate pilot plant equipment is not essential, but is preferred.
  • Proficient with office software (Microsoft Office, Excel, Access), laboratory control software (DCS/LIMS) and project management programs, is essential. 
  • Prior participation on project teams with previous record of successful project management and technical report writing is required. 
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Training and/or experience with TQM or team based management environment preferred.
