This position requires a majority of time supporting the Sara Lee R&D
Center on behalf of Spicetec Flavors &
Seasonings to develop seasoning blends and flavors for use in meat, poultry
and savory applications. Work will take place on-site at Sara Lee, and from
the Spicetec plant. The position also requires
development work to support other Spicetec
initiatives, which will be conducted from the Spicetec
plant. This position will support testing from bench top to scale up, and
coordinate sensory evaluation of the ingredients in the finished product.
This role works directly with the Sara Leeâ€™s
R&D team as well as Spicetecâ€™s R&D Team
to provide flavor and applications expertise, assist in project management
efforts and provide cost effective flavor systems with the highest possible
quality and consumer acceptance. This position is responsible for initial
development of the blend/flavor system through to commercialization. It is
also responsible for understanding the customerâ€™s
business and marketing strategy and working with the Spicetec
team to proactively drive innovation through new blends, flavors and food
applications. The role is approximately 50% bench top work, 25% pilot plant
work and 25% computer/paperwork.
Formulate new seasoning blends
and modify existing seasoning blends/flavor systems and evaluate the blends
in finished product.
Make seasoning samples for projects and pilot
Support sensory panels by
making finished product samples, cooking products and attending panels.
Support scale up of new
blends including process, specifications, plant trials, shelf testing,
product start-up, and troubleshooting.
improvement new ingredients/technologies for effective development, cost
optimization, quality improvement or processing efficiencies.
BS in Food Science or a related field
required and minimum 5 years seasoning experience.
Focused experience in
development and application of seasoning blends and flavors.
Ability to adapt to current
computer systems (i.e. computer support in SAP, common Microsoft system
applications, and unique ConAgra systems).
Ability to work with and
assist SL R&D on bench top, pilot plant, and plant trials.
Ability to bring forward
innovative and creative ideas to Sara Lee R&D and Procurement for the
idea to be jointly validated.
Proven ability to handle
multiple projects simultaneously and work with little supervision.
Ability to work independently
with selected outside suppliers.
Excellent organization, time
management, and project management skills.
Ability to work well with
others and as part of a team.
Ability to travel
independently, up to 10-15% of time, and as a responsible ConAgra Foods
