Job Description

Large, well established food/bakery ingredient manufacturer has an immediate opening for a Food Scientist. Offering competitive salary, growth potential, and excellent benefits.

POSITION PURPOSE: •To provide product development support and technical service to customers; sales; and production departments. To promote company values and beliefs while performing job tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Supports customers, sales and production as required and or needed. •Represents R & D at customer sites as required and or needed. •Develops complex vitamin and mineral premixes to meet customer needs. •Communicates and follows up with customers regarding product development projects. •Writes product specification sheets. •Stays current with food fortification market trends and apply knowledge to product / prototype development. •Performs mathematical and formulation calculations. •Writes complex batch sheets used in the production of customer specific products. •Checks own work and work of others to ensure 100% accuracy of formulations. •Plans, prioritizes and completes multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. •Represents R&D interests in company-wide Quality efforts. •Participates in training of newly hired personnel and interns.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: •B.S. in Food Science or closely related field required. M.S. preferred. •Minimum 1-3 years required relevant work experience. Preferred 3-5 years relevant work experience.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: •Knowledge of food processing and subsequent impact on food quality. •Knowledge of or willingness to learn vitamin and mineral functionality in foods. •Knowledge of or willingness to learn domestic and international food regulations. •Excellent oral and written communication ability. •Strong organizational skills. •Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with Genesis beneficial. •Self-starter with ability to work in team environment. •Able to interact extensively with other departments in the company. •Strong problem solving skills.
