Position Summary:
sweetFrog Enterprises, a rapidly growing, leading frozen yogurt retail company seeks a Research and Development Chef with an emphasis in desserts, pastries and sweet treats. This position will contribute to the revenue and profit growth of the company by developing new and improved products and flavors, using both a scientific and culinary approach.

The qualified candidate will be responsible for innovating and developing new product concepts, prototypes, and processes in response to customer or internal demand. This position creates formulas and recipes for commercialization and costing; adapts formulas to cost criteria and is responsible for creating products with a consistent flavor, color and texture. This position will also manage related vendor relationships and product logistics.

  • Manages new recipe development and maintains concise documentation of formulas and project related work.
  • Conducts core ingredient research, development of new products, cost & quality improvements to current products
  • Presents new product ideas clearly, accurately and persuasively to customers internally, externally and cross functionally and plans, organizes and controls resources to deliver products and processes to an agreed quality and timescale.
  • Provides formulas and batching information for costing and material sourcing. Sources and recommends complementary resale products.
  • Confers with vendors, process engineers, flavor experts, packaging and marketing specialists to understand available technology and provide ideas, solutions, and alternatives to meet food safety, quality, costs, and customer requirements
  • Maintains an awareness of market food trends and comparative products from all major retailers/competitors and recommends product development ideas in line with those trends.
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires a minimum of 5 years related experience in food product development. A culinary degree with an emphasis in pastries and desserts and vast knowledge of food science and formulation is required. A Food Science degree is a plus and food manufacturing experience is also a plus.


  • Extremely organized, with ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work under pressure; Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with ability to coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity;
  • Effective verbal and written English communications skills, with ability to communicate with coworkers, customers and outside counsel at all levels in a clear, direct manner;
  • Ability and willingness to work within a team environment in support of company objectives;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions in accordance with established guidelines;
  • Ability to deal with new tasks without the benefit of written procedures;
  • Approachable, flexible and adaptable in a dynamic, growing environment with many rapidly implemented changes.
