Product Development Associate - 02195 - Evansville, IN


The Product Development (PD) Associate is responsible for partnering with the PD Scientists to deliver commercially feasible liquid and powder products. The PD Associate manages raw materials, manufactures products according to GMP requirements, tests and evaluates product performance to ensure nutrient and physical property stability to meet specification requirements. Accomplishment of assigned tasks includes planning, execution and evaluation of experiments from bench top through commercialization. The ability to interpret, communicate, and leverage experimental data to support the development and implementation of robust formulations is expected. The PD Associate assists PD Scientists to provide support to global projects and innovation initiatives involving novel raw materials (including carbohydrates, probiotics, lipids, proteins), products and processes (including producing liquid bulks, spray drying, freeze drying, blending powders) which will then be transitioned to regional PD Scientists and Associates. The PD Associate also partners with PD Scientist to apply creative thinking and problem solving skills in a team setting towards the resolution of process and product issues. Job responsibilities will require working in pilot plant, PD laboratory and manufacturing environments.


         A minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, or Biological Sciences, Chemistry or related discipline with course work in Food Science.

         A minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant product development experience in a Food laboratory or Pilot Plant environment. Familiarity with Dairy products, Infant and Childrenís nutritional formulations is a plus.

         Demonstrated experience in executing product development activities for powder and liquid formulations, including all work steps necessary to manufacture experimental and clinical products. Competency in ordering and weighing raw materials, maintaining inventory and supplies, creating and maintaining batch records, handling kettles/bags upto 50 lbs, and appropriately producing, sampling, testing and discarding product.

         Demonstrated experience in testing and evaluating product performance to ensure nutrient and physical property stability to meet specification requirements. Competency in setting up multi-level product specification reports, raw material and product test schedules, data logging, and maintaining stability chambers and devices. Collaboration with Micro, QC and Sensory departments to conduct appropriate testing. Collaboration with Customs and Receiving departments or Third Party Laboratories to ship out or receive products for testing.

         Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently in the PD/Food Laboratory and Pilot Plant. Competencies to operate, clean, assemble, disassemble and standardize processing equipment and analytical equipment in a manufacturing/testing environment. Knowledge and execution of SOPs. Compliance with EHS, GMP and GLP.

         Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, some statistical softwares. Familiarity with GLIMS, OPTIVA and SAP is a plus.

         Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

         Demonstrated focus and versatility in handling multiple projects at one time, with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team.
