Cargill Meat Solutions has an exciting opportunity available for a Food Scientist - Research and DevelopmentThis position will be the primary technical resource for Ground Beef: (a chemistry, (b microbial, (c processing and packaging, and (d performance issues. This role also measures quality parameters of Ground Beef based on plant performance, business needs, and/or customer inquiries.


Other responsibilities include primary project manager for new/improved product testing and process testing. In addition, the person selected for this role will be a significant member of the Unified Ground Beef team driving for: 1) continual improvements in customer service, b) improvements/innovations in product and production, c) timely and accurate information, and 3) a sustainable and profitalbe product line.




         A bachelor's of science degree or equivalent experience in food/meat science, culinary arts, hotel/restaurant management or food processing.

         A minimum of 2 years of experience in new product development, commercialization of new products, and/or research. 

         Experience in meat processing, especially ground beef manufacturing.

          Understand customer needs, wants and service. 

         Be confident in making and delivering promised solutions to customers. 

         Skilled in product analysis (micro, sensory, color, culinary, etc). 

         Willing to travel and able to work remotely/independently. 

         Travel to production facilities or customer visits (20-40%)  

         A strong background in scientific procedure and project management skills. 

         Knowledge and understanding of factors affecting meat quality

         Knowledge and understanding of ingredient functionality

         Data analysis, design of experiments and technical writing skills.

         Proven leadership and communication skills

         A high level of proficiency using Microsoft Office tools and email.


         A Master's or PhD in food processing

         Previous experience with statistical software.

         Previous experience in retail and/or foodservice operations.
