Position Description - This position is responsible for all Quality Assurance and Food Safety activities for the world’s leading pickle-in-a-pouch Manufacturer. You will be responsible for creating and implementing solutions that ensure the continued quality and improvement of our products and process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Assurance/Food Safety

  • Maintain product quality by evaluating quality audits; enforcing established specifications, methods, and procedures.
  • Train employees according to Van Holten’s standards and procedures for quality in all stages of our operation (lab, tankyard, operations, distribution, and sanitation)
  • Document and maintain quality assurance and standard operating procedure manuals
  • Document and maintain databases for the following information
    • Cucumber / pickle inspections
    • Fermentation tracking
    • Pickle sizing
    • Product lot tracking
    • Ingredient lot tracking
    • Customer comments
    • Reworked and returned product
  • Monitor raw product condition by inspecting, analyzing, and approving or rejecting incoming ingredients and supplies.
  • Develop and maintain recall procedures, perform mock recalls quarterly
  • Develop, document and maintain HACCP program
  • Develop, document and maintain GMP program
  • Develop, maintain, and execute a new employee quality orientation plan
  • Develop, maintain, and execute an annual quality training program for employees
  • Perform and document the following audits:
    • HACCP (daily)
    • GMP’s (daily)
    • Sanitation (daily)
    • Pest control (monthly)
  • Maintain Kosher certification records
  • Establish existing product flavor / quality taste tests

 
Management

  • Supervise, train, and oversee day to day operations of the lab, brine making, and sanitation personnel to ensure that all related duties are done to our standards
  • Keep up to date on and communicate changes in regulations including, OSHA, FDA, Kosher standards, packaging and labeling requirements, and food safety
  • Provide guidance and support to other staff on quality, food safety, and personal safety issues
  • Utilize technical expertise to find opportunities for improvement in our products and processes and communicate these opportunities to management


Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance to Federal, State and local regulations
  • Conduct and document safety audits (including fire extinguisher, eye wash/shower, and clear exits, and signage)
  • Keep vendor/supplier certificates of liability insurance up to date
  • Provide annual training for all employees of OSHA required programs and maintain an employee training log
  • Maintain and update and MSDS binder
  • Schedule and coordinate annual audiometric testing
  • Maintain a regulatory agency inspection procedure and distribute to the proper personnel
  • Coordinate and conduct quarterly safety meetings


 Skills/Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis in biology, chemistry, food science, public health or a related field. 
  • Three to five (2-5) years of progressively responsible food safety, sanitation and quality assurance experience is preferred.  Broad knowledge of current food safety laws and regulations regarding food processing facilities. 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skill set. 
  • Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts. 
  • Solid decision making skills. 
  • Bilingual Spanish-English helpful but not required.
  • Experience with acidified foods is preferred
