General Summary

The individual will be responsible for the develoment of new soup product designs from concept to commercialization of innovation, renovation, cost optimization and quality initiatives; and will work with supervision to execute these objectives. The individual must possess a good knowledge base of technical principles and be able to apply that knowledge towards creating new formulations or existing products.

Job Complexity

  • Work with Technical and Business teams to identify & define product concepts and establish project objectives.
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills. Can execute timelines that contain primary as well as contingency plans.
  • Work with vendors to research new ingredients, product technologies, and/or processes to develop unique and innovative products. Leverage vendor capabilites where appropriate to expand formulation possibilities, drive innovation, and/or increase speed to market.
  • Develop prototypes to support concepts and exploratory work. Reformulate based on consumer direction. Formulate products for scale-up. Conduct trials in the Pilot Plant or manufacturing facility to assess manufacturing capability and consumer acceptability.
  • Interface product design with various nutritional quidelines, cost constraints, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Support development to assess and implement capabilities to drive productivity and growth initiatives in key strategic areas.
  • Extensive knowledge of ingredients and food systems.
  • Work with Process Development and Supply Chain to identify internal or external manufacture needs
  • Good problem solving skills. Can determine with some guidance the root cause of a problem and execute effectively on solutions.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to react rapidly to changes in direction.
  • Develop awareness of industry developments and pursue ingredient, product, or technology advances for application to new and innovative product initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Food Science, or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience is required.
  • Demonstrated skills in commercializing products/processes in the manufacturing environment is desired.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and seek creative solutions
  • Highly effective team player; willing to contribute in a wide variety of areas
  • Good oral and written communications as well as presentation skills are required.
  • Knowledge of experimental design.
  • Computer skills include Excel, Word, Access, database and internet tools.
  • Ability to walk or stand up to three-quarters of the work day. Physical ability to handle weights of approximately thirty pounds.
  • Travel required (up to 30% )

Working Conditions

WHQ Office, Research Kitchen, Pilot Plant, and Manufacturing Plants (CSC, co-packer, and vendor). The work exposes the employee to heat and hot food products, and requires the use of personal protective equipment.
