The Director of International Food Safety is
responsible for overseeing that each country that we operate in has all
necessary key elements of an effective food safety management system. This includes
each country having a supplier approval process, distribution food safety
plan, training and education of associates, store and club food safety
policies, third party auditing services, recall procedure, regulatory
compliance tracking process, complaint investigation procedures, and more.
The Director indirectly leads a virtual international team made up of 10
food safety representatives, one in each country in which we operate.
Through monthly conference calls, email, phone calls, and in-country visits this person drives
consistency in food safety and risk management approaches and ensures
standardization worldwide. This position directs global third party audit
and sanitation service providers to ensure our stores and clubs are operated
in a safe and compliant manner around the world. This role is also
responsible for advising international markets on more complicated,
potentially severe, or controversial food safety issues as they arise. This
person also oversees food safety reviews of potential new market entries,
acquisitions, or mergers. Very importantly, the Director of International
Food Safety must proactively stay abreast of current and emerging food
safety issues and international and federal regulations and advise the company and country-specific businesses of
needed risk management actions.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of
management in food safety with at least 10 years of experience in a related
role as a Director in food retail, food service, or food manufacturing
sector. Experience in a third party consulting firm or regulatory agency is
also valid. He or she must have an in depth knowledge of HACCP, food safety
specifications, food processing, emerging foodborne
pathogens and state of the art control strategies. They must have a minimum
of a Bachelors degree in Food Microbiology, Food Science or related field
with a graduate degree being desired. Global experience, working in emerging
markets, and familiarity with global standards are
highly desired and beneficial. This person must have a good business acumen,
high energy level, and effective communication and influence skills. Being
multi-lingual is considered very beneficial. He or she must be highly
organized, analytical, and an excellent problem solver. This person must be a collaborator with experience in interacting with company and
regulatory officials at all levels and in various countries.
Graduate degree in Food Microbiology, Food
Science or related field is desired. Global experience and familiarity with
global standards are also beneficial. Beneficial Registrations or
Certifications include: Registered Microbiologist, Certified Food safety
Professional, or related registration or certification.
