Primary Function

The Senior Food Scientist in our Global Dairy Applications group is a very exciting and highly visible opportunity for someone who is looking to take on a challenging role and make a direct impact. The Senior Food Scientist will be responsible for leading and supporting global and regional projects and project teams as well as customer engagements. The Scientist will develop and launch new ingredients from concept to commercialization as a team leader or a key contributor in multidisciplinary teams. The role has very broad exposure within the global organization and will provide excellent opportunities to collaborate with regional teams from Europe, Asia, South America, etc. To be successful the Scientist will need to be a self starter, team player and a highly independent individual with excellent communication skills.

Manage technicians and/or technologists

Key Deliverables

Business

         Use dairy science/food science and food engineering principles to lead and manage a portfolio of dairy projects. Develop and commercialize starch based ingredients for dairy applications.

         Plan, direct and execute research projects, write reports and present findings to key stakeholders.

Agility and Innovation

         Identify new opportunities in the dairy segment consistent with business strategy.

         Maintain an understanding of patent and trade literature in dairy and starch based ingredients.

Relationships

and People

         Collaborate with several functional teams including technical and marketing functions and lead multifunctional product development teams; manage projects and deliver results under challenging schedules.

         Develop external networks with customers as well as scientific organizations. Present new ingredients and research to customers and scientific community.

Knowledge, Skills,

and Requirements:

         PhD in food science/engineering or a related field with 2 or more years of relevant work experience desired, MS with 5+ years or BS with 8+ years relevant experience required. Strong dairy and food science background required.

         Expertise in dairy manufacturing and product development.

         Knowledge of functional ingredients relevant to dairy segment.

         Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and interact with a cross-functional team. Supervisory skills and experience desired.

         Strong experimental and measurement skills.

         Must have excellent communication skills - outstanding verbal & written technnical skills as customer presentations and technical publications are a requirement.

         Proven ability to plan and prioritize work to meet deadlines and achieve business objectives.

         Approximately 5 to 10 % travel to customers, technical/trade conferences, and other Ingredion locations will be required.
