We are growing very fast and with our growing customer demand, reputation, food products, food imports and private label products, comes a growing responsibility to ensure top quality and safe products for our customers.The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technologist will provide technical expertise and leadership for Restaurant Depotís Food Safety and Quality Assurance Program. Located at our New York corporate office in College Point, Queens, you will focus on quality and food safety of imports, quality assurance of our private label brands, foreign supplier verification and product testing. Role objectives:

         Work with third party laboratories to test imported food products and ensure food safety and quality

         Analyzing and reporting of test results from product testing

         Monitoring of the Food Safety Modernization Act regulations and identifying effective implementation of regulations pertaining to Restaurant Depot

         Quality Assurance of private label brands. This involves comparing product specifications for private label products and ensuring products have good quality standards.

         Meeting with suppliers and buyers to discuss food quality and safety requirements.

         Creation of Restaurant Depot specifications for all private label products as a standard for all existing and new suppliers to follow thereby ensuring safe and high quality products

         Creation of company policies pertaining to imports, implementation of FSMA regulations, store HACCP and food safety

         Promotion and development of our Keep it Kool Program

         Work with regulatory officials (FDA, USDA) to make sure the company food safety and quality policies are in line with regulatory requirements

         Review and update of the annual Quality Assurance Program binder for the stores with the corporate food safety/HACCP team

         Assisting our stores with any food safety and quality concerns or issues

         Assisting with managing product recalls in the stores

         Attending relevant conferences and seminars to keep in line with current developments in food safety and quality both in industry and regulatory

         Membership and participation in industry recognized food safety organizations

Qualifications and Skills:

         Bachelorís degree in Food Science or related field

         Knowledge and understanding of food safety, HACCP, food microbiology and food regulations

         Strong communication and written skills

         Ability to work independently as well as in teams

         Focused and detail-oriented

         HACCP certified/ability to obtain HACCP certification on the job

         Preferred: Masterís degree in Food Science or related field

         Preferred: Relevant work experience in a role of food safety/quality assurance††††
