and will continue to be a vital part of the global economy. We currently
have a full-time Plant Sciences Senior Food Scientist position open
within our Plant Sciences research department in Caldwell, Idaho.
Sciences is building a team of fun, hard-working individuals to launch
new product lines based on a more natural, consumer friendly
biotechnology. The ideal candidate likes working in an entrepreneurial
environment with the excitement of a startup, yet enjoys the advantages
of being part of a large agribusiness company, with deep roots in
agriculture. The senior food scientist will test new potato varieties for
use in fresh, frozen, chips, and dehydrated products. They will also
design new foods from conception through introduction in the market
place. This includes early prototypes, pilot plant scale-up and
implementation at the plant level. The senior food scientist will collaborate
with others divisions including food processing, sensory, potato variety
development, engineering, and culinary sciences.
- Organize and
complete testing of new Plant Sciences varieties as needed for the fresh,
chip, or dehydrated markets.
- Work closely with
R&D and Product Approval teams to complete testing for trait efficacy
and regulatory approval.
- Design and conduct
studies as needed to support commercial development and marketing of new
varieties and food products.
experiments, complete statistical analysis, summarize and interpret data,
develop product specifications, and communicate results.
- Develop new potato
products, optimize processes, and work with Commercial Director to obtain
capability for processing through Simplot facilities, outsourcing, or
developing new capacity as needed.
- Lead all product
development efforts from concept initiation until completing product
- Establish quality
specifications, nutrition labeling, and define tests needed to assure
product quality and safety.
- Bachelor's degree
(M.S preferred) in the Sciences, preferably in Food Sciences, but could
be in Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering.
- 10 years related
experience and/or training.

candidate has the relevant food science background along with excellent
writing and oral communication skills. This individual must be a
self-starter, willing to work with minimal direction. We anticipate the
person needing to travel about 25% of time.
