Quality Assurance Specialist/HACCP Coordinator – Chicago, IL

 

 

One of the national leaders in the manufacturing of quality meat snacks is looking for a qualified individual to add to the Food Safety Team.  Located in Chicago, IL this company has been in business for more than 80 years.  The position is for a Quality Assurance Specialist/HACCP Coordinator. This individual will report directly to the Vice President of Quality Assurance.

Quality Assurance Specialist/HACCP Coordinator

 

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the HACCP, SQF, SSOP, GMP and other Quality Assurance and Food Safety programs to assure safe food handling practices, quality products, and regulatory compliance.
  • Leads and represents plant’s Quality Assurance and Food Safety Department in absence of Vice President of QA.
  • Provide necessary documentation to assure that established standards of quality and food safety are met.
  • Assist in managing, training, coaching, leading, and supervising all plant QC staff.
  • Act as primary plant liaison to USDA personnel in the absence of Vice President of QA.
  • Assist in updating and preparing new specifications for raw materials, packaging and finished products.
  • Assists in managing current and new raw material supplier approval and monitoring program. Works with suppliers to coach, train, and maintain quality and food safety standards through open communication.
  • Assist in label approval process.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of HACCP, SQF, USDA regulations, GMPs, Quality Assurance, and Food Microbiology.
  • 2+ to 5 years relevant work experience in the food industry, preferably in meat or meat processing.
  • HACCP certification.
  • 4 year degree in a science related field. Sufficient relevant work experience may also be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 10% of time required.
  • English language skills (reading and writing) required. Bilingual in Spanish or Polish is a plus.
