The job below uses chemistry,
microbiology, engineering, or other sciences in combination with food
science knowledge to analyze, develop, improve, and document food
preparation processes and procedures critical to sustainable
manufacturing performance. The job requires a very competent knowledge
of Food Science relative to food manufacturing. In collaboration with
RQT, the Food Scientist develops product manuals inclusive of in-process
control points and finished goods specifications for all current Frozen
Additional responsibilities include:
-Support new product innovation by ensuring development and
implementation of product manuals for all new products.
-Review all existing formulas for current relevance per new ingredient
developments, ingredient consolidation opportunities, critical
ingredients and current status of ingredient specifications.
-Serve as a liaison to product developers as to current plant process equipment
-Provide on-site support / coordination of Innovation plant testing.
-Leads the process of identifying, recording, and implementing
"best practices" in the manufacture of our Frozen Foods
products (i.e. mixing parameters, ingredients parameters, equipment
-Provide real-time food science support for troubleshooting production
-Make process changes as identified by data analysis, Kaizen, problem
-Work with RQT to ensure proper specifications exist for products.
-Act as the continuous improvement leader monitoring new technologies in
new processing equipment.
-Coordinate all efforts with RQT and ensure adherence to appropriate
-Partner with the Operations Specialists, Operations Managers and RQT to
drive process stabilization and improvement.
-Facilitate transfer and incorporation of all food science learning
across all FF facilities.
-Ensure adherence to all standard work processes, including K-LEAN
Candidate Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelors degree in Food Science or a related field and a minimum of 4
years related experience or a Master of Science degree in Food Science
or related discipline with two years experience
-Strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to work with
a diverse team; self starter / self-directed.
-Past experience with Food Science work. In-depth understanding of how
mixing time, humidity, temperature, and viscosity can affect a product.
Candidate Preferred Qualifications:
-Previous Kellogg, Little Lady, or LoneStar experience - Plant
operations experience or experience in running plant trials - Food
product development experience.
-Experience with or understanding of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing
-Strong communication skills with proven ability to motivate, inspire,
and energize individuals to achieve team objectives and drive results.
