Job Description :

The Food Safety Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the following:

Testing

§ Performing the various microbiological tests in the laboratory (e.g. APC, E. coli, lactic acid bacteria, etc.)

§ Performing various chemistry tests in the laboratory (e.g. Ractopamine, tetracycline, etc.)

§ Performing all testing in accordance with company SOPs

Data Entry and Reporting

§ Entering data from analysis of all testing performed in the laboratory

§ Submitting reports from data entered

Laboratory Maintenance

§ Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory.

§ Maintaining inventory

§ Verifying calibration of equipment

§ Recording incubator temperatures

§ Additional duties as necessary.

Job Requirements :

§ B.S degree in microbiology, chemistry or related field.

§ 5 years experience in a food microbiology or chemistry lab.

§ Excellent written and oral communication required.

§ Word processing, database and spreadsheet skills sufficient to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, statistical/technical/scientific materials, etc. with speed and accuracy, including the willingness to learn and use new computer programs/applications.

§  Integrity

§ Ability to pay close attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

§ Rational thinking and decision-making ability.

§ Proven problem solving

§ Ability to recall, retrieve and communicate detailed or technical information clearly, accurately and concisely to non-technical audiences/customers.

§ Ability to perform various microbiological and chemistry testing.

§ Knowledge of meat products over a broad range and understanding of basic food safety and quality assurance principles a plus.
