Job Duties: Conduct basic research for the improvement of existing products and the development of new products, outlining procedures and specifications. Research and determine appropriate methods to improve quality of food, including flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, and convenience, as well as the physical, chemical and microbiological composition of foods. Maintain documentation of all research notes in lab books and computer database. Complete project requests issued by sales personnel within the time frame specified by the customer. Confer with process engineers, flavor experts, sales staff, suppliers, customers and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems. Conduct in-house customer presentations and serves as a company representative at trade shows. Employ efficient time management techniques and assure that all project work is completed in a reasonable time frame. Actively assist customers with technical issues that may arise. Maintain laboratory, including upkeep of equipment, stocking of supplies and general cleaning of work areas.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Food Science, or related field, and three (3) years of progressively responsible, post baccalaureate experience in research and development roles within a food or beverage company, or in food production-related positions. In the alternative, a Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Food Science or related field, and one (1) year experience in research and development roles within a food or beverage company, or in food production-related positions is also acceptable. Any other suitable combination of education, training, or experience is also acceptable. Additionally, must possess the following: i) Knowledge of food quality improvement methods including use knowledge of GMPs and HACCP; ii) Experience with profit improvement through reduced cost formulations, raw material selection and process efficiency improvement; iii) Experience with operation of lab and plant equipment, including extruders, mixers, kettles, ovens, cooling, and packaging; and iv) Experience streamlining raw materials into manageable groups, including reduction of redundant and unnecessary materials.
