Food Science: Food Science Faculty Positions: Two tenure-track positions, one in Food Chemistry (Department of Chemistry) and another in Food Microbiology (Department of Biology), are available beginning August, 2012 as part of a Food Science Cluster at Western Kentucky University (WKU). The mission of this new cluster is an integrated approach to food science research, technology, and business representing an institutional priority of the Research Division at WKU. New hires are expected to help develop the food program and curriculum working with existing faculty and facilities and contribute substantially to the infrastructure growth in food science. A third position as part of this cluster already under search is an animal/meat scientist in the Agriculture Department. The Chemistry position requires a Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field, while the Microbiology position requires a Ph.D. in microbiology. Each position requires postdoctoral experience (academic or industrial) in food science. The successful candidates will be expected to teach and to develop strong, externally funded research programs in their respective areas with both undergraduate and graduate students (M.S.). Western Kentucky University has an Applied Research and Technology Program (ARTP) with Centers such as the Materials Applied Materials Institute, Institute for Combustion Science and Environmental Technology, and Biotechnology Center. Extensive instrumentation capabilities exist through these and other Centers.
