Calif. child dies of E. coli infection

A Dixon child has died of an E. coli infection, and officials are waiting for test results to determine if a second child was infected with the bacteria.

The Solano County's Public Health Department said the first child died Friday after being hospitalized with severe E. coli symptoms, which can include stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.

The name and gender of the victim was not disclosed.

A second child was treated for severe diarrhea at a Dixon area hospital this week and was released.

Lab results are pending to determine if that child also had E. coli.
