Senior Food Technologist
HLP Solutions has partnered with this leading food processing company to
offer this immediate opportunity in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Experience in a food processing environment is required for this
position.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Food Technologist will manage and execute projects designed to
achieve corporate goals related to product development/formulation, batch
testing, scale-up and commercialization of new products, and product and
process improvement of existing products. The position will also develop
product specifications, manage sensory science activities, and oversee
product regulatory, labeling and nutritional compliance.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field and/or food
industry experience; 7+ years of demonstrated product development
experience and responsibilities. A Masters Degree in Food Science
preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Position may have supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
The position requires a proficient level of knowledge of the food/meat
industry and the ability to apply this knowledge to product development.
This would include: product design, formulating, processing and packaging
as well as food safety and regulatory compliance. Some culinary skill
with multiple proteins is beneficial.
The individual shall demonstrate strong verbal and written communication
skills, strong analytical abilities, leadership, and presentation skills.
The individual must be able to manage time, handle multiple tasks,
conduct meetings with timely follow-up, and work collaboratively with
other team members.
The individual should be proficient in all Microsoft Office computer
programs. Familiarity with statistical software such as Mini Tab is
beneficial.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Assists the Corporate Director of Product Innovation in the planning
and execution of new product development projects using a structured
product development process.
2. Manages technical resources to support product development projects
with product design, ingredient research, product formulating, product
specifications, product testing, regulatory labeling compliance, and
successful transfer to manufacturing operations.
3. Manages product and process improvement projects designed to improve
quality, compliance to specifications, reduce costs, or increase consumer
confidence and satisfaction.
4. Manages product and process quality audits to determine compliance to
specifications.
5. Participates in the statistical sensory science program for LFI
branded products as well as core QSR customer’s and retail private label
customer’s products. The position also attends regularly scheduled
sensory evaluations and training for the sensory panel.
6. Implements the use of sensory testing protocols and shelf life testing
protocols to improve quality or food safety with statistical data.
7. Adheres to the Specification & Labeling process for the creation
and/or maintenance of the product specification files for each product
and helps implement new specifications or changes with Plant Management,
Plant Operations and FSQS groups.
8. Ensures products are within regulatory compliance through the label
review process, and conducting research on regulations, nutritional
requirements, determination of compliance, and applying for USDA label
approvals.
9. Assists with the production, collection, screening, packing and
shipping activities of sample product as requested by sales
administration or contract customers for presentations and customers’
quality auditing programs.
10. Represents the company in technical meetings with customers or
suppliers.
