Job Description

The Department of Animal Science is seeking applications for an Extension Program Specialist II who will serve the Meat Lab under the general supervision of Dr. Joe Cordray, Professor and Extension Meat Specialist.

Responsibilities of this position include planning and conducting seminars, short courses, workshops, training sessions and industry meetings. Other responsibilities include the development and dissemination of educational materials related to meat science, meat technology and food safety. Significant participation in the Manufacturing Extension Partnerships Grant is expected, including working with Iowa meat processors on all aspects of their business. The duties of this position will also include one-on-one consultations with program attendees, meat industry clients and other interested parties, review of research projects, literature reviews, and development of grants for external funding.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with strong problem-solving capabilities. The candidate will also be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team made up of faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students and outside clientele.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Meat Science, Animal Science, Food Science or related field and two years of related experience OR Master's degree Meat Science, Animal Science, Food Science or related field and some experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Meat Science, Animal Science, Food Science or related field.
Experience with grant writing.
Experience contributing to journal articles.
Prior experience in meat industry short courses.
Experience with or knowledge of processed meat production
Experienced in beef and pork carcass evaluation.

Salary

Minimum $33,676; commensurate with qualifications

Special Conditions

This position requires valid driver's license by employment start date.

All accrued vacation must be taken during the term of this appointment. Unused vacation will be forfeited upon resignation or termination from ISU.
