North America is seeking a Food Technologist who with minimal supervision,
will develop formulations, create and modify factory processes in the areas
of cost reduction and quality improvement for our Consumer Products
Productivity Research & Development Team. As a part of our Productivity
team, the successful candidate for this role will work independently on
formulation, scope feasibility, quality improvement projects, conduct plant
trials and other associated work for US-based frozen brands. This role offers
the successful candidate an opportunity to work with multiple brands,
providing exposure to multiple areas of the business, different types of food
systems and factories and various business partners.
Who will be successful in this role? An individual who will.
' Apply food science knowledge to determine best ways to process, package,
preserve, store and distribute foods.
' Coordinate and perform trials in Pilot Plant and factory to insure
compliance to approved formulas.
' Analyze food content to determine levels of vitamins, fat, sugar and
protein.
' Utilize a balanced approach to formulation keeping a focus on the consumer
as well as operating with a cost mindset.
' Create and maintain positive relationships with a cross-function set of key
stakeholders through strong communication, executive presence and
understanding of assigned brands.
' Contribute to the ideation-to-execution process of product development by
creating products that are safe and transferrable to production.
' Research ways to make processed foods safe, palatable, and healthful.
' Use chemistry, microbiology, engineering and other
sciences to study the principles underlying the processing and deterioration
of foods.
' Keep technically informed through suppliers and technical literature.
Activities performed daily include:
' Formulate products for flavor, color, nutritional content, cost, and
adherence to government, company policy, and industry standards.
' Check raw ingredients for acceptability for
processing, and finished products for safety, quality, and nutritional value.
' Confer with cross-functional partners such as food
technologists, engineers, plant operators, sensory experts, packaging,
marketing, and sales in order to drive the product development process.
' Develop food standards and specifications, safety
and sanitary regulations.
' Demonstrate products to internal and external
clients, including direct interaction with customers.
' Solve technical problems through search of
scientific literature or other sources of technical information.
' Investigates ingredient and process innovations through suppliers and
technical literature.
The
following skills and experience are required to be considered for this
position:
' B.S. in Food Science or related field required.
' Minimum of 3 years of professional food industry
experience necessary required (not including internships or co-ops).
' Willing to travel 20 ' 25% required.
' Experience with conducting plant trials with limited supervision.
' Strong communication skills demonstrated by previous experience presenting
products to various levels (including executives) and various departments of
the organization.
' Ability to apply critical thinking skills, demonstrated by using logic and
reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions,
conclusions, or approaches to problems strongly preferred.
' Working knowledge of product development and familiarity with quality
assurance procedures.
