Job Overview:
The Corporate Food Safety Director is responsible to support SUPERVALUís brand and quality image and ensure regulatory compliance by formulating
strategy and directing Food Safety and product recall programs and initiatives. The position is responsible to promote an end-to-end view of food safety
through integrating the food safety and sanitation programs across Retail and Supply Chain. Working closely with Merchandising, this key role will also
interact with operations to ensure policies, procedures, and training programs promote food safety and consumer protection. This includes comprehensive recall
and reclamation processes and communications associated with them.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Direct company food safety and sanitation efforts working with Banner, Merchandising and Supply Chain Leadership to maintain compliance with Federal, State and local health regulations.
  • Partner with merchandising and quality assurance teams ensuring quality components of all corporate branded items, including product specifications, new product development, manufacturing performance, new vendor evaluation and selection, and issue identification and resolution.
  • Direct all aspects of the Company recall function, ensuring regulatory compliance with FSMA and COOL, consumer protection, efficient communication, and store execution.
  • Direct activities in establishing and executing an effective food defense plan within the organization collaborating with Supply Chain and Retail Leadership teams.
  • Investigate product quality and compliance issues (i.e. tampering, adulteration, mislabeling, etc.) that impact both fresh and manufactured products as they develop and are reported by the media, customers, suppliers or regulatory officials. Work with procurement and operations management to identify and plan any corrective actions necessary. Assist media relations in developing relevant, clear communications.
  • Assist customer call center operations related to customer food safety and quality assurance complaints.
  • Maintain active working relationships with all appropriate industry and regulatory bodies.

Job Requirements:†††††††††††

  • ††††††††††† Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Public Health, or related field required.
  • 10+ yearís leadership experience in food manufacturing or food retailing programs.
  • Proven experience with interpreting state and federal regulations, and maintaining working relationships with industry and regulatory officials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Proven exceptional ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to deal with conflict in all levels and areas of the organization and work well with others to accomplish results.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 30%.†††††††††
