About Virginia Tech
Position Summary
This assistant professor position will develop a nationally
recognized and extramurally funded multidisciplinary research program
in functional foods. Emphasis on chemical and biochemical
functionality and role in food quality and human health, especially related
to obesity and chronic diseases is prioritized. The selected
candidate will be expected to work collaboratively within the
research and teaching programs in the department with an 80% research
and 20% teaching appointment. Development of courses related to
research interests and contribution to current departmental courses
is expected.
The incumbent will work within the University's College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences established obesity cluster
multidisciplinary program focusing on obesity management and
prevention. The Virginia Tech Institute of Biomedical and Public
Health Sciences has identified
obesity-related research as one of its major initiatives and has
substantial resources available to campus faculty actively involved
in obesity-related research. Post doctoral experience desirable or
other demonstration of success with competitive funding resources.
Required Qualifications
Doctorate in Food Science, Biochemistry or related science
with research emphasis in function food components for increased
health and wellness. The successful applicant will possess strong
communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Post doctoral experience, documentation of extramural
funding, peer-reviewed publications, and evidence of potential for collaborative
interdisciplinary research is preferred.

be commensurate with qualifications and will include a start-up
package and summer salary for the first two years of appointment.
