The function

Job Summary: The Food Technologist guides and executes tests and demonstrations for internal and external purposes. The Food Technologist supports sales and service colleagues in the field. This position is part of a multidisciplinary team that develops, produces, sells and installs Marel Townsend equipment all over the world.

Essential Functions:
* This is a full-time position. Hours: 40-hour week, Mon-Fri 8 hour days – additional hours may be required; the customer’s needs are primary to all goals and concerns.
* The Food Technologist is closely involved in new developments of processes and systems regarding MarelTownsend equipment. Through working in the field, this position must stay in touch with changes in the market and customer wishes and be able to translate that into practical developments.
* Learn all Marel Townsend equipment, how to operate it, and the science behind it. May lead to a specialty in one or more of our further processing areas.
* Will own, plan, set up and perform demos and food sampling for customers in the test center and at customer locations as needed.
* Assist and take on projects as assigned.
* Communicate well with customers during demos and in plant testing. Keep them apprised of changes to the production process during the sale. Assist and train customers regarding the Marel Townsend equipment, and troubleshoot the QX equipment.
* Will be a part of a global Marel Food technology knowledge group.
* Will be cross-trained to work on all types of Marel Townsend equipment.
* Operates any equipment needed to perform the job.
* Collects and maintains the Innovation Center Data.
* Write customer demo reports.
* Travel required per project and customer demands.

Additional Duties:
* Participate in Department training and meetings as appropriate
* Read and follow company procedure manual and safety rules
* Deliver and communicate instructions to the Innovation Center Staff as needed.
* Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
4 year degree in Animal Science, Food Science or related field, Master’s Degree in related field a plus
* High level of knowledge of food technology, and affinity with and knowledge of meat technology, process technology and the process administration system HACCP.
* Practical experience in the meat industry with hands on approach to equipment.
* Knowledge of and experience with meat recipes. Insight and feel for the interactions between different consumables and technological processes (extrusion, brining, frying, smoking, etc.)
* Must be a self starter who works well with minimal direct supervision.
* Must be familiar with and comfortable working in a team atmosphere.
* Familiar with basic computer software- MS-Office, Windows, Word, Excel.
* The ability to work with customers, vendors, and co-workers in a courteous and tactful manner, and with flexibility, to resolve problems. Customer focus is our #1 concern.
* The ability to work with people of different levels in the organization, internally at Townsend and externally with customers and suppliers.
* The ability to concentrate, handle pressure, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
* Excellent verbal and communication skills required. Ability to work as part of a team is essential.
* Good organizational skills. Motivated, outgoing, self-starter. Able to follow through on duties and assignments with minimal supervision.
* Excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
* Maintain professional appearance/demeanor.
* Maintain positive attitude under stress

We offer

Typical physical demands: This position requires some standing, sitting, bending, twisting, squatting, stooping, climbing, and reaching overhead. This position requires constant lifting of 10-20lbs, with occasional lifting up to 50lbs. It requires manual dexterity, and normal range of hearing and vision.

Typical mental demands: Must be able to analyze many variables and choose the most effective course of action given the particular situation. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

Working environment: Works in the Test Center. The area is temperature controlled, cold, and wet. Noise levels vary depending on equipment running, but can be loud at times. Travel varies with projects and customer requirements but can be up to 75%.

Safety Equipment: Hair net, (beard net if applicable), smock, and booties required in the Test Center. Adhere to customer requirements at plants.
